Free local models. Your critical data never leaves your company.
Safe on a computer in your office. Working 24 hours a day. Nothing is sent to ChatGPT, Google’s cloud, or any other website unless you say so.
What the words on this page mean
ModelThe “brain” that answers questionsIt is a large file on the hard drive. You type. It answers. It does not need the internet once it is installed.
Local / on-premIt runs in your buildingYour files, your questions and the answers stay on that machine. They are not uploaded to America.
Think of it like this. ChatGPT is a very smart person who lives in a building you do not own. You post them a letter every time you ask a question. They keep a copy. A local model is a very smart person who sits at a desk in your office. The letter never leaves the room.
Your critical data never leaves your company.
Staff can ask it at 11pm. It does not send the question anywhere. Unplug the internet and it still answers. That is why law firms, clinics, councils and factories buy these boxes.
A “kit” is the computer + the setup + 30 days of watching it.
You are not buying a download. You are buying a machine that lives on your floor, with the model loaded, a short test period, then a monthly Care plan so it does not quietly break.
| Kit name | What you get | Who it is for | Setup from | Care each month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Desk kit | One powerful PC on a desk. Keyboard, screen if you need it. We install the free model, test it with your team, leave a one-page “how to use this” sheet. | A manager, a receptionist PC, a small office of 2–15 people sharing one box. | A$8,400 | A$490 |
| Department kit | A bigger, quieter workstation or small server. Several people can use it at once. Holds a larger, smarter model. | A whole team — accounts, legal, clinic admin, a warehouse office. | A$18,000–55,000 | A$990–1,690 |
| Air-gap kit | Same idea, but we load the model before the machine ships so it never needs to join the internet. Quoted after we see the room and the rules. | Sites that cannot put a cable on the public web. Defence-adjacent admin, some government, some plants. | Quoted | A$1,690 |
A technician from The Original PC Doctor delivers it in your city — Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Hobart, Darwin, Newcastle and many regional towns. We do not ask you to fly to Ringwood.
Care is the monthly retainer. We update the model when a safer version is out, watch that it is still answering, and fix it when someone unplugs it. Year one Care is required if we supplied the hardware.
Gemma is the free Google “brain”. It lives on your PC, not in Google’s cloud.
Google makes two different things with similar names. Gemma is a file you can keep. Gemini is the website / app that sends your words to Google. We install Gemma.
| What we load | In plain words | A real job it can do | Which kit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gemma 4 (small or large) | Google’s newest free model. Can read text and pictures. | Draft an email. Read a photo of a form. Answer “what does our leave policy say?” | Small on a desk kit. Large on a department kit. |
| Gemma 3 | The reliable older sister. Same idea, very well tested. | Front-desk answers. Sorting emails into “quote / complaint / job”. | Desk or department |
| Gemma 3n | A small version that runs on a normal laptop. | A supervisor’s laptop on a job site. Notes that never leave the bag. | Desk / laptop |
| EmbeddingGemma | A helper that turns your files into a private search index. | “Find the clause about payment in last year’s contracts.” Search stays on the disk. | Any kit that searches folders |
| TranslateGemma | Same family, trained to translate. | A council or clinic with families who do not use English first. Draft only — not a certified interpreter. | Desk or department |
| MedGemma | Same family, practised on medical language. Not a doctor. | Draft a referral letter from notes. A GP still signs it. | Clinic department kit |
Use cases — the jobs, not the jargon
1. The after-hours phone and the front desk
Someone calls at 7:40pm. The model reads your booking rules and either takes a message or books a slot. In the morning the list is on the desk. The recording and the notes stay in your office.
Good models: Gemma 4 small, Gemma 3, Llama 3.2 small.
2. “Ask our folder” — policies, contracts, old jobs
You point the kit at a folder of PDFs (leave policy, safety manual, last year’s tenders). Staff type a question in ordinary English. It answers from those files only. It does not wander onto the public web.
Good models: EmbeddingGemma plus Gemma 4 or Llama ChatQA.
3. Photo of a docket, invoice or whiteboard
Take a picture. The model reads the writing and turns it into a row you can paste into Xero or a spreadsheet. Useful in warehouses, trade businesses and clinics.
Good models: Gemma 4 with pictures, Llama 3.2 Vision.
4. Draft the boring writing
Thank-you emails, job ads, toolbox talks, council-style letters, “sorry we are late” notes. A person still hits send. The draft never sat on a US server.
Good models: Gemma 4, Llama 3.1, Qwen3.
5. Help the IT person write small programs
Power Query, a script that moves files, a bit of website glue. Not a replacement for a developer. A faster first draft on a machine that cannot leak the client database.
Good models: Qwen Coder, gpt-oss, Devstral. These want the department kit.
6. Government, legal, health, factory admin
Same computer. Tighter folder. A human signs anything that leaves the building. We do not sell this as a SECRET or TOP SECRET system.
Good models: Gemma 4 or IBM Granite, plus the search helper, on a department or air-gap kit.
If Gemma is not the right fit, Ollama has more free brains.
Ollama is the program on the PC that starts the model — like pressing play. The models below are free to download. Licences still exist. We only load ones you are allowed to use.
| Name you will hear | Simple use | Kit it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Llama 3.2 (tiny) / 3.1 (bigger) | Meta’s free family. Tiny is fast on a desk. Bigger is smarter on a department machine. | Desk / department |
| Qwen 3 | Good when staff and suppliers mix English with other languages. | Desk / department |
| Mistral / Ministral | Another solid office brain. Some buyers prefer the European licence wording. | Desk / department |
| Granite (IBM) | Built with offices in mind. Good at tidy answers and searching files. | Department |
| gpt-oss | An open model in the “GPT-style” family. Needs a strong department machine for the large size. | Department |
We do not load “uncensored” hobby models on a Care plan that touches customer or government files.
Is this ChatGPT with the internet switched off?
No. It is a different brain that you own. It is very good. It is not always as flashy as the latest ChatGPT. For private work that is the trade you want.
Do I need the internet after the first day?
No. We can even load the model before the PC arrives so it never goes online. That is the air-gap kit.
Are the models really free?
The model files are free. The computer, the visit, and the monthly Care plan are what you pay us for. Care is how it stays working at 2am in six months’ time.
Can my staff break it?
They can unplug it. That is about it. We put a simple chat window on the screen. No command line for the receptionist.
Will you come to Newcastle / Perth / Darwin?
Yes. PC Doctor technicians cover every capital city and many regional areas. Confirm the suburb on the scoping call.
